Google gives higher priority to websites with fresh content, so if you want to get more attention from the search engines, update your blog or site at least three times a week. That’s if you are the busy type of person.

Writing lengthy articles is necessary, how is it necessary? It is important in the sense that,

  • It reduces bounce rate
  • Google pays attention to short clicks and long click i.e. clicking the back button
  • How long the visitor stays on your page and or site

The time your visitor stays on your site before hitting the back button is what Google look at. If they hit the back button immediately after landing on you page, it a sign that you have a low quality page or post.

You can increase your average dwelling time by writing long engaging content that will drive traffic and keep people reading. That way even if they bounce back immediately to the search results, you at least have a long click. Now that long click shows Google that you gave them something of value while they were there.

drive traffic by guest posting

Blogs or sites with high number of visitors are a good choice, locate them and offer to contribute guest blog posts. If the site has a substantial audience, you can bet that readers will in turn want to engage with more of your content.

When you’re first starting out, it can be tough to convince other bloggers to allow you to post on their sites OR have an audience large enough to inspire others to want to contribute to your site.

Be aware that Google’s recently cracked down on guest blog posts and guest blog tools that focus exclusively on attracting links. In a way links can be a nice by product of a relevant, useful, and high quality contribution to another site, it can look very fishy to Google if all your links are coming from guest contributions that appear to have little relevance and low quality. Moz’s Jen Lopez wrote an excellent summation of the new rules for guest posting here.
